What an unexpected, completely delightful gem. Mellow Moon was everything we love in a road trip motel: A welcoming, authentic, simple and clean space with thoughtful touches including unique local pottery for your in-room coffee mugs; an incredibly comfortable roomy bed; a wonderful -sophisticated design aesthetic that blended Western whimsy with modern industrial Boho; sustainable touches like bamboo tissues; an incredibly easy check in process and to top it off it’s reasonably priced and dog friendly with an amazing onsite coffee shop — The Lunar Lounge— with insanely good handmade baked goods and espresso drinks courtesy the master baker Anna— on site. It’s rare to find a place with this much soul anymore and we know you can’t create it without a lot of authentic passion and care. We ended up here simply because we just wanted to head out a day early to beat a Colorado snowstorm whilst enroute to a race we go to every year in New Mexico but from now on we’ll go out of our way to make a stop anytime we’re in the southern Sangres - Wolf Creek area!! Recommend it 10 stars!

The Mellow Moon is amazing. It’s a local business that makes you know that you made the right decision to stay in Del Norte. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The coffee shop is full service with an incredibly personable staff. The mellow moon is within walking distance to a grocery store and plenty of restaurants. The Mellow Moon is trusting in that they have an Honor based pantry convenience store. They have some great food. Freeze dried meals that look amazing and some smaller snacks that are delicious and exotic and all natural. Lauren is a Fantastic Hostess and will help with whatever needs you may have. All you have to do is ask.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel as a whole is just a nice, comfortable place to be. Our room was clean and very comfortable. Our dogs also enjoyed the stay. The attached coffee shop is amazing. The quality of the coffee is incredible, and the baked goods are the best around. The rest of the amenities really round out the whole stay. We’ll definitely be staying here again!

A Total Hidden Gem — Exactly What a Mountain Motel Should Be Mellow Moon Lodge is one of those rare places that reminds you why you love road trips in the first place. The rooms are cozy and welcoming, the beds are comfortable, and everything just works the way it should. You can tell real people take pride in this place. The location is fantastic — ideal for exploring the San Juans, fishing, hiking, or just soaking in the peaceful pace of Del Norte. It’s calm, relaxing, and refreshingly unpretentious — the kind of spot where you sleep well and wake up happy. And the hospitality truly sets it apart. Friendly, genuine, and welcoming without being intrusive. You’re treated like a guest, not a reservation number. That warmth makes all the difference. Mellow Moon Lodge nails what so many places miss: comfort, character, cleanliness, and care — all at a great value. It’s the kind of place you’re excited to find, grateful to stay at, and happy to recommend. If you’re looking for a clean, charming, no-nonsense place to stay with real Colorado personality, this is it. We’ll absolutely be back. Five stars, easy.

Staying at Mellow Moon was hands-down one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Colorado. From the moment I arrived, the place lived up to its name—calm, welcoming, and full of good vibes. The atmosphere is cozy and thoughtfully designed, making it feel less like a hotel and more like a peaceful retreat. If you’re looking for a unique, relaxing, and memorable stay in southern Colorado, Mellow Moon is an absolute must. I can’t wait to come back!

We had a great stay at the Mellow Moon Lodge! The rooms were big and clean. Loved the canteen that had all kinds of odds and ends that you might need, and possibly forgot at home, while traveling. The water refill station was a plus. It was also so nice that we could bring our dog. Lauren and her team were super responsive when we had questions and checked in on us periodically to see if we needed fresh towels or linens (we stayed four nights!). It was super easy to navigate at the Mellow Moon Lodge, despite the Lunar Lounge being closed for the holidays. Highly recommend and we sure hope to head back when the next powder dump happens at Wolf Creek!

Stylishly renovated motel, every detail exquisitely thought out in a modern take on the Western theme! Luxuriant beds and showers in a quiet setting with easy access to the stunning wilderness of Elephant Rocks, Penitente Canyon and Creede. Don’t miss the excellent coffee shop (pastries and coffee are superb) and stylish Rodeo Mercantile.

This is a perfect “don’t judge a book by its cover.” The outside doesn’t look like much but OMG the room was gorgeous. A mix of industrial/ modern with a retro flare. Huge king size bed, beautiful modern shower . My fav was the retro teal fan n retro heater. They had a common area with a microwave and honor system with unique local items. Only downfall was tv lagged during movie and no paper towels in common area. I was looking at an oil item n it was leaking but no way to clean my hands. I wud totally stay there again and reccomend it even to my picky mom.
